The New York Asian Women's Center (NYAWC) has 20
guaranteed spots in November's ING NYC Marathon. Join Team NYAWC as we run over 25 miles through the 5 boroughs of NYC on November 4, 2012.
The Marathon may seem daunting, but like our other runners, we know you will find motivation along the way. The runners say that remembering that the abused women they are supporting have faced challenges greater than running 25 miles kept them going through the training, fundraising, and the 26.2 mile long course on running day.
Please fill out our Agreement Form to run on behalf of the over 800 abused women and their children we help every year.

2011 ING NYC Marathon
The runners’ perseverance, strength, and stamina as they ran the 26.2-mile ING NYC marathon on November 6, 2011 were truly inspiring. In addition to meeting this physical challenge, the runners raised over a total of $50,000 for NYAWC's women and children.

2010 ING NYC Marathon
Patricia Rose's headphones broke during her first mile at the 2010 ING NYC Marathon. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Why did you decide to run for NYAWC last year?
I wanted to raise money for an organization that I felt strongly was helping women. NYAWC's work is inspirational. It has shelters dedicated to abused Asian women who have no where else to go. It provides services beyond counseling. NYAWC helps these women plan their career and get an education.
What gave you the motivation to run and finish the 26 miles?
I had butterflies in my stomach the day of the marathon but I told myself that I would be okay with walking some of the race. To my utter dismay, my headphones for my walkman broke during the first mile! Not having music was a blessing in disguise though because it caused me to be very present to everything the race had to offer. I talked with the other runners and we encouraged each other to not give up. We had so much support from the marathon fans that lined the course that I realized this was its own music soundtrack!
One of the best parts of the marathon was running past the red NYAWC banner and large cheering crowd from the organization towards the end. Seeing my mom cheering with NYAWC staff was very encouraging.
